ENQUIRE

ENQUIRE was a software project written in 1980 by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN, which was the predecessor to the World Wide Web. It was a simple hypertext program that had some of the same ideas as the Web and the Semantic Web but was different in several important ways.

According to Berners-Lee, the name was inspired by a book entitled Enquire Within Upon Everything.

The conditions

Around 1980, approximately 10,000 people were working at CERN with different hardware, software and individual requirements. Much work was done by email and file interchange. The scientists needed to keep track of different things and different projects became involved with each other. Berners-Lee started to work for 6 months on 23 June 1980 at CERN while he developed ENQUIRE. The requirements for setting up a new system were compatibility with different networks, disk formats, data formats, and character encoding schemes, which made any attempt to transfer information between dissimilar systems a daunting and generally impractical task. The different hypertext-systems before ENQUIRE were not passing these requirements i.e. Memex and NLS.

EnQuire

enQuire — Grants, Contract and Project Management is a web-based software application used as a platform for project, contract and grant management, as well as reporting and planning.

Initially designed for the specific business requirements of the Australian Government, Queensland Government and Queensland Regional Bodies to manage natural resources projects, enQuire has since seen adoption outside of this industry and user segment. The use of enQuire by Natural Resource Management bodies within Queensland has been cited as a reason for the improved efficiency, quantity and quality of reporting.

Technically, enQuire - Grants, Contract and Project Management is implemented as a Java application built on a MySQL database. enQuire - Grants, Contract and Project Management is hosted and supported under the software as a service model by Tactiv Pty Ltd.

History

The system was first released in 2005 under the name ViSTA NRM Online, proactively changing its name to 'enQuire - Grants, Contract and Project Management' in 2007 to avoid possible confusion with Windows Vista, which was being released at the time. The enQuire project and support team is based predominantly in Brisbane, Australia.

A noun (from Latin nōmen, literally meaning "name") is a word that functions as the name of some specific thing or set of things, such as living creatures, objects, places, actions, qualities, states of existence, or ideas.Linguistically, a noun is a member of a large, open part of speech whose members can occur as the main word in the subject of a clause, the object of a verb, or the object of a preposition.

Lexical categories (parts of speech) are defined in terms of the ways in which their members combine with other kinds of expressions. The syntactic rules for nouns differ from language to language. In English, nouns are those words which can occur with articles and attributive adjectives and can function as the head of a noun phrase.

History

Word classes (parts of speech) were described by Sanskrit grammarians from at least the 5th century BC. In Yāska's Nirukta, the noun (nāma) is one of the four main categories of words defined.

The Ancient Greek equivalent was ónoma (ὄνομα), referred to by Plato in the Cratylus dialog, and later listed as one of the eight parts of speech in The Art of Grammar, attributed to Dionysius Thrax (2nd century BC). The term used in Latin grammar was nōmen. All of these terms for "noun" were also words meaning "name". The English word noun is derived from the Latin term, through the Anglo-Norman noun.

CSI: Miami (season 3)

The third season of CSI: Miami premiered on CBS on September 20, 2004. The season finale aired on May 23, 2005. The series stars David Caruso and Emily Procter.

Plot

Entering their third season, the Miami CSIs continue to work to rid the streets of crime using state of the art scientific techniques and back-to-basics police work. The team suffers a personal loss this season as Tim Speedle is gunned down while investigating a murder/kidnapping. Horatio hires Ryan Wolfe, a patrol officer with Obsessive Compulsive tendencies to round out their investigative squad. Facing their most explosive season yet, the team investigate piracy, car-jacking, gun-play, homicides involving snakes, and a tsunami.

Rory Cochrane left the series after the season premiere. Jonathan Togo joined the show and was promoted to series regular. Rex Linn became a new recurring cast member.
